We just took the girls to Disneyland. We had lots of fun, even if our trip started off a little more than bumpy!
We plan on leaving nice and early Sunday morning. As I'm packing, Saturday night at 11pm, I hear something strange from my girls room. I run in there not sure what I'm hearing, and there it is. Carli sitting up in bed, projectile vomiting all over her bed, floor and herself. OK. I yell for Chris (scaring Ashlee half to death, who starts crying not knowing what's going on), who cleans up the room while I get Carli in the tub to wash off. Carli continued to throw up every 30 minutes for the next 6 1/2 hours. At 5am Sunday morning I fell asleep with Carli for 2 hours. Got up, finished packing, showered, and we were on our merry way by 10:45am Sunday. I sat in the back with the girls, put towels on the floor, and took it easy on the way to California. We checked in at 5:30pm, got our stuff up to our room, and went to Downtown Disney to walk around and get some fresh air. Carli had a few bites of my dinner, and just took it easy. We got back up to the room, and Carli threw up all over. I quickly look for something to grab, see our cooler we were planning to take to Dland with us, and throw it under Carli's mouth. Good-bye cooler, that went straight in the trash. Carli crashes 30 minutes later and sleeps all night. Whew.
We get up the next morning and Carli is feeling all better. We take it very slow, and head to Dland early afternoon. At this point I'm hoping it was a fluke Carli got a bug, and we're all in the clear.
We get about 4 hours in at Dland, Carli is doing great, and decide to watch the "Celebrate Parade".
After the parade (6pmish), Ashlee told me she wanted to go back to the hotel. Bummed about already missing a full day, I told her to be tough, and that we were going to go on a few more rides. I thought she was just tired. So, Chris is pushing Carli in a stroller, I am pushing Ashlee, and we cut across where the parade is still coming with a bunch of people. All of a sudden, I see Ashlee throwing up everywhere. Yes, on the parade route. I yell for Chris, who turns around and runs back to me. We are litterally in the parade route, with throw up all over the ground, all over Ashlee, and all over the stroller. What the hell am I supposed to do now? We push the girls off the route, while moms are running up to me with wipes who I can tell feel so bad and can tell I'm not sure what to do. I had put my hands down infront of Ashlee as soon as I saw her throwing up, so I was pretty much covered in it too. We clean up as much as we can, the Dland staff is covering the throwup with tons of papertowels seeing as the parade will be coming through it in about 2 minutes. I tell a guy who looks like he's in charge I need on the Monorail the quickest way possible. He tells me where to go and I take off with Ashlee while Chris stays with Carli at Disneyland. I told him I didn't want them in the room with sick germs floating all over.
I push Ashlee to the Monorail as quick as I can, while we are both reaking of throwup. We are the next ones on the Monorail, we step in a car, and she looks at me. I can tell what's coming. I say frantically, I need off, she's gonna throw up. I barely get her off the car and she throws up everywhere. It splatters all over my pants, our shoes, everywhere. I needed my mama! The staff comes to help us, Mr. Earpeice who helped me at the parade route is suddenly up at the Monorail getting me papertowls and an empty kleenex box. The people in the car were watching us, I'm sure thinking, "Please don't let them back on, please don't let them back on". So, I say, "Can we please get back on, I need to get her back to the hotel now." This older guy was so nice, he gave me my papertowels and kleenex box and tells me that if she throws up on the car, they can clean it up and not to worry. So we get back on the car and I don't make eye contact with anyone! Ashlee just sits there white as a ghost, and I'm pretty sure every parent was covering their kid's faces and telling them not to breath! I would have!
I throw Ashlee in the tub, clean myself up, and she continued to throw up every 30 minutes for the next 7 hours. I felt so bad for her. Notice the garbage can on the bed. Awesome. The best part is when I was diving for the garbage can at like 2am and hit the inside of my left knee on the bed rail and got the nastiest, hugest bruise on my leg. A week later it still looks nasty. Just gets better and better!
The next morning we take very slowly. Now that I haven't really slept in 3 days I'm feeling a wittle bit sleepy. But by late morning Ashlee is feeling better and we head over to Dland. I'm hoping it was just an overnight thing like Carli had. We go see Tinkerbell (which takes about 45 min in line), and she feels sick again. Now that I have explained to her that she needs to tell me when her stomach hurts, and not just that she wants to go back, she makes it clear her stomach hurts, which tells me to get the heck out of Dland and get her back to the room. I came prepared today though, plastic bags in tote to catch throwup if needed.
We go back to the hotel, rest all afternoon, and try to go back that night. Ashlee didn't get sick anymore, I think she just needed to rest. We went back to Dland for about an hour and a half that night, and go back to the hotel for the night. Rock and Roll girls. The flu and Disneyland do not mix!!!!
So now our first 2 days have been pretty much duds (lots of sick tummies and not a lot of fun). But we slept through the night, Ashlee and Carli were doing good, and we headed out the next morning. We got in an hour early since we were staying at the Disneyland Resort, and can I just say, we got on more rides in the first hour and a half than we would have normally in 4 hours! The girls were feeling better, and we hit all the fun kid rides they wanted to go on.....Dumbo, Alice In Wonderland, It's A Small World, Dumbo, Pinochhio, Dumbo, the Carousel, Dumbo (can you tell the girls liked Dumbo?) Now we're all having fun and back on track.
Once we were back on our feet we got three full days in. And three full days with a 3 and 5 year old, on an overly tired mom are utterly exhausting. But worth every minute! Ashlee was a total trooper. We had strollers for both of them, but she did lots of walking. Carli, she needed to be carried quite a bit. For two reasons, it just took too darn long to have her walk, and she was tired from her little legs trying to keep up with us! Hers was tired. I don't think I've carried my kids as much in the past year as I carried them in the past 5 days!
California Adventure had really cute shows and parades for kids. Disneyland had better rides for the kids. So we spent about 2 half days in California Adverture to break up the Dumbo rides. Ashlee and Carli were dying to see the High School Musical 3 Parade! They stood in the front and watched the whold thing, singing where they could.
Carli was less than 2 inches too small to go on most of the rides in California Adventure, so I took her on a few rides while Chris and Ashlee hit Soaring Over California and the Rapids ride. Chris said she liked the Rapids ride, but when I asked her about it she said no way was she going again, it was too scary! Drama Queen! She thought she was pretty cool going on big girls rides with daddy. She "wanted" to be sopping wet after the Rapids ride, so we convinced her she was! All 3 wets spots I found on her!
One morning we did Breakfast with Minnie. I borrowed Minnie Mouse outfits from girls at my work (I know, how perfect did that turn out?!) It was pretty cool, while we ate breakfast we got to see Tigger, Chip & Dale, Geppetto, Cinderella's Fairy God Mother, the monkey from Tarzan, Hook, Briar Fox, and Eyore, and of course.....Minnie Mouse!
So, it ended up being a good trip, after a rocky start. We made the best of it, and had fun with the good days we had. The girl's favorite ride was Autotopia. I think if Carli hadn't been seat-belted in she would have thrown herself out of the car 30 different times. CRAZY DRIVERS!!!!!
Here's a few miscellaneous pics from our good days!
